French news outlet L’Équipe has confirmed that new signing Jules Kounde is set to undergo his Barcelona medical on Friday.

Kounde, who will put pen to a five-year deal with the Blaugrana, will cost Barcelona as much as €50 million plus €5 million in add-ons, with the aforementioned publication stating that the initiation of the remaining formalities will take place in the following days.

Kounde has been the subject of a long-torn war between Barcelona and Chelsea. The latter had a bid worth €55 million plus €10 in variables in place but were only waiting to get the green signal from the defender.

As it turns out, the player was only waiting for Barcelona to come up with an offer and while the bid submitted by the them is way off of what Chelsea had offered, Sevilla accepted the deal out of respect for the defender, as his priority was to play for the Catalans.

Meanwhile, amidst the constant push and pull between Barcelona and Chelsea, L’Équipe has also stated that a third team in Manchester City tried to hop on board, but lost out due to timing as Kounde had already committed himself to Barcelona.

For now, the defender is with Sevilla in their pre-season tour in Lagos, Portugal, and is expected to undergo his Barcelona medical on Friday.

Interestingly enough, it’s important to note that the defender is coming on the back of an injury and might as well take some time to settle into the new environment.

In any way, he has already agreed to a package of €6 million net salary which is a substantial figure for Barcelona, especially during the ongoing financial crisis.

Away beyond the financial aspect, Kounde does represent a great future as at 23, he has a lot to offer.
