In what could be a big blow to Barcelona, it has come to light that Manchester City have offered a contract extension to Bernardo Silva and if signed, the Portuguese will commit his future until 2027.

The 28-year-old, who happens to be on Barcelona’s radar for a long time now, also has offers from Paris Saint-Germain and Al Hilal but it has been learned that if he decides to leave City, Barcelona would be his preferred destination.

As far as the Bluagrana are concerned, the management is aware of the fact that Xavi remains a big fan of the player and he believes the Portuguese will only enhance the creative profile of the team.

Now, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that he would never stand in the way of a player who wants to leave. But City will demand a hefty fee from anyone who comes in for Silva, quite particularly, around €80 million.

Considering the current state of finances, Barcelona are in no place to offer that kind of fee despite the fact that Silva, himself, dreams of dressing as a Barça player.

To make things worse, SPORT has reported that in order to keep him off Barcelona’s books, Manchester City are willing to offer him a new contract that would increase his wages to €18 million per season.

At the moment, the 28-year-old is still considering his options and he knows that he if does decide to leave, he will only join the team who would agree to pay €80 million.

Now, for what it is worth, Saudi side Al Hilal have him in their sights and it is said that they could offer him up to €30 million per season.

The player’s preference, however, is to stay in Europe as he understands that Barcelona have him as absolute priority.

But the Blaugrana are not in a position to pay his transfer fee or not offer the €18 million per year wages that Manchester City would be offering.

But the player’s desire to don the Barcelona jersey could be key, although the La Liga champions must sanction some sales very soon if they wish to sign Silva.
