Barcelona will have a tough fight at their hands to sign Las Palmas sensation Alberto Moleiro as the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid have also entered the race for the attacking midfielder.
This claim comes from a report from Mundo Deportivo, who state that while the Blaugrana seemed to have their noses ahead in the race for the teenager, the emergence of more suitors has complicated matters for them.
The 19-year-old is a product of the Las Palmas youth academy and has been performing admirably at the first-team level over the past year and a half. He was expected to follow in the footsteps of Pedri and sign for Barcelona this past summer.
However, the second division club demanded a fee of €10 million plus another €15 million in variables for Moleiro, which Barcelona decided against paying.
Having stayed put at Las Palmas, Moleiro has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, racking up three assists in the process for Garcia Pimienta’s side.
His growth in the Spanish second division has now attracted interest from Liverpool, Manchester City as well as Barça’s arch-rivals Real Madrid. Apart from these clubs, Borussia Dortmund are also said to be keen on the Spaniard.
Moleiro signed a new contract with the club earlier this year, extending his stay until 2026. The midfielder has a release clause worth €30 million, which will double up to €60 million if Las Palmas get promoted to La Liga.
Such a scenario would further make things difficult for Barcelona, given the club’s iffy financial situation. As things stand, the Catalans continue to hold an interest in Moleiro, touted as the ‘next Pedri’, but the road to signing him will be anything but easy.
