Manchester City could sign Barcelona right-back target with €20 million release clause
Barcelona have been following the development of former La Masia trainee Arnau Martinez very closely at Girona. The 19-year-old right-back has been thriving in the past couple of seasons at the Catalan outfit, catching the attention of his boyhood club.
It is no secret that Barça are on the lookout for a new right-back. While the idea would be to try and sign a top-quality player for the position, the financial situation at the club might not allow for it.
Hence, a player like Martinez, who has shown immense potential and would be feasible financially, has emerged as a prospective target for the Catalan giants.
However, according to Lluis Canut on Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona could end up facing competition from Manchester City for the signing of the young right-back.
The owners of the Premier League club also happen to own Girona and manager Pep Guardiola might try and secure the 19-year-old services despite having Kyle Walker at his disposal, claims Canut.
Martinez’s contract with Girona runs until the summer of 2025 and comes with a release clause worth €20 million. The young Spaniard has displayed great potential and promise in his debut season in La Liga and can only get better from hereon.
Furthermore, the former La Masia ace has already admitted that he would be open to returning to Barcelona, but only if a first-team role is offered.
But with Manchester City’s shadow looming on the deal as well as interest from La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid, the Blaugrana would have to move quickly in the market if they are to secure Martinez’s signing.
