Barcelona have enjoyed a near-perfect start to the season. The defending champions are leading the La Liga table with five wins in six matches.

They will look to continue their momentum this week when they take on RCD Mallorca at Son Moix on Tuesday.

Heading into this clash, Mallorca coach Javier Aguirre spoke to the media, offering his take on the Catalans.

Aguirre on how to stop Barcelona

Javier Aguirre was notably asked about Mallorca’s approach heading into this Barcelona game, especially considering the opponent’s form.

In response, the manager pointed out two instances where Barça had difficulties either scoring a goal or containing the opposition attack.

“We saw two games in which they suffered a lot, against Getafe which ended 0-0, and against Celta against whom they were losing 0-2 until the 80th minute,” Aguirre said as quoted by AS.

“We saw two ways of countering them and looking at examples of other teams, together with our virtues, we have tried to design something, although it is always difficult,Aguirre added.

Valid concerns for Barcelona?

Barcelona were indeed quite toothless in attack against Getafe in the opening matchday, while they struggled to break down Celta Vigo’s rearguard until the last ten minutes or so.

Barcelona’s performances against Getafe and Celta Vigo were not up to the mark, something that is not lost on Xavi.

However, Barça have shown that they can overcome the challenges, especially with their frontline and the full-backs – Joao Cancelo and Alejandro Balde – in good nick.

The injury of Frenkie de Jong is likely to impact the team’s potency in midfield but Xavi has enough alternatives in the middle of the park.

Mallorca, therefore, certainly have their task cut out as they look to contain Barcelona this midweek.
