Luis Enrique achieved great things during his time as the manager of Barcelona. A total of nine trophies in three years, including the historic treble in the 2014/15 campaign has ensured that the 51-year-old will remain a revered figure at the club for a very long time.

So, it should not come as a surprise that Enrique remains on the mids of the Barcelona hierarchy over a potential return to management at the club in the future. Indeed, as per a report from SPORT, the Spaniard is someone that the Blaugrana see as a ‘top candidate’ to make a comeback as manager.

However, coaxing him away from his current job with the Spanish national team is unlikely to be easy. The report adds that Enrique is excited and completely engrossed in his project with La Roja as he looks to take the team back to its glory days after a decline in stature in recent years.

Indeed, following their dismal 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign, Spain entered a phase of transition and Enrique has seemingly found a group of players who can take the team back to the top, as was seen by their performance in the UEFA Euro 2020, where they were unfortunate to get knocked out of the semi-finals via a penalty shootout.

Enrique & co., though, do not have to wait for long to have a go at winning a major tournament as the FIFA World Cup is only a little over a year away, with the biggest international competition in football set to take place in Qatar next year.

So, as things stand, Barcelona remain huge admirers of Enrique and would very much like for him to return to manage the club. However, a comeback is not on the table, at least for the immediate future, with the 51-year-old completely focusing on his project with the national team.
