Loan watch: Barcelona winger Coutinho named Aston Villa player of the month

Barcelona could be in for a summer money splash as loanee Philippe Coutinho has been named Aston Villa’s player of the month for February, as was announced officially today by the club.

Coutinho’s decision to return to the Premier League is bearing fruit for him, and he has already racked up two goals and two assists for Steven Gerrard’s team in six games.

He was involved in all three goals for Villa in a 3-3 draw vs Leeds United, assisting two goals and scoring the opener. And while he has not had any more direct contributions this month, he has created five chances while across the next three games.

Villa currently sit 13th in the Premier League with 30 points, with the aim of finishing the season in the top 10, at least. They do, however, face tough competition from Leicester City, Crystal Palace, and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The next opponents for Coutinho and co. are Southampton, who sit five points above them in 9th place. Barcelona fans will be keeping a close eye on Brazilian winger, whopping he can reap the club €40 million come the end of the season.
