Despite being in sensational form, it seems Ousmane Dembele will not stay at Barcelona beyond this summer. The two parties are stuck in limbo about a new contract, with neither willing to take the first step and find a middle ground despite wanting the same thing.

As such, preparing for life without the Frenchman becomes essential. One of the names on their radar is Leeds United’s Raphinha. The Brazilian could leave the Lilywhites this summer, and is ‘more than happy’ to join Barcelona, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano on his podcast ‘HERE WE GO‘.

He also states that Barcelona have a great professional relationship with his agent, Deco. Not only is the Portuguese considered a club legend, but is also currently the head of scouting for the club in South America.

The Blaugranes are not the only ones vying for his transfer, though. Chelsea and Liverpool are also in the race, but the former face bigger problems right now.

Raphinha has been in sensational form all season, scoring nine goals and giving three assists. He is, however, massively underperforming his xA (expected assists), which ranks him fifth for chance creation with 6.07.

Despite his form, though, Leeds are in danger of dropping into the Championship. They sit in 16th place, just four points clear of the relegation zone.

In the event they do slip into the second tier, Raphinha’s asking price is expected to reduce significantly. While there are no details on it, we can estimate it to be around the €20 million mark.

BU’s take

Raphinha is undoubtedly a fantastic talent and is at the theoretical peak of his powers at the age of 25. He can play as the right-winger, as the attacking midfielder, and if push comes to shove, even on the left.

With the likes of Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the club, Barcelona need a ball-handling winger in their attack to find balance, which Raphinha can provide. Choosing to sign him is a step in the correct decision.

As cycnical as it may seem, Barça should be hoping that Leeds get relegated this season.
