Just in: Veteran midfielder will continue at Barcelona next season

According to a report published by Javi Miguel, Miralem Pjanic is set to continue at Barcelona next season. He has been informed of the decision by Xavi, too.
Pjanic’s continuity depended on him accepting a salary reduction, and the midfielder complied. The report suggests that the reduction he took last year from his salary does not apply now, but he is willing to slash his €6 million net wage now.
He wants to succeed at the club at all costs and finally saw a breakthrough in the team as Sergio Busquets’ deputy during the pre-season USA tour. His performance against Juventus, especially, felt like a turning point.
With Pjanic’s continuity, Nico Gonzalez’s future has been put into doubt. He was initially thought to be Busquets’ replacement for the next season, but it seems the Bosnian is now ahead of him in the pecking order.
It is entirely possible that the Spaniard leaves on loan to get more game-time. Wolverhampton Wanderers were quoted with an interest, but other teams could join the march.
