Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele gave a big scare when his side took on Intercity in the round of 32 of Copa del Rey during the week.

By the end of regulation minutes, the team from the third tier of the Spanish football system had managed to equalise three times, meaning that the two sides needed added minutes to find a winner.

Ultimately, it was Ansu Fati’s goal that differentiated the two teams, but Dembele’s hamstring issue towards the latter part of the game more or less gave Xavi a snag ahead of what is going to be a congested pile of fixtures.

Dembele, who was one of the scorers during the game, was arguably the biggest threat for Intercity. But during a volleyed attempt from inside the area, the French forward seemed to have hurt himself as he was seen holding his hamstrings.

The 25-year-old dropped off to the ground and needed help from his teammate to stretch his leg. Following a brief medical attention, he limped off towards the touchline but entered the field in no time.

By the time Dembele picked up what was thought to be a hamstring injury, Xavi had made all five substitutions, but given that the game was in added minutes, the manager was allowed to make a sixth.

By the stroke of the 105th minute, however, the Frenchman was taken off in place of Alejandro Balde.

While it was thought to be an issue for Barcelona, Spanish publication SPORT has relayed that the winger is indeed fine and the problem was only a result of explosive football he played at Estadio Jose Rico Perez.

This means that if there are no unexpected surprises during the mid-week training, Dembele will be available for selection for the all-important away game against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Dembele’s presence will be of utmost importance for Barcelona since Robert Lewandowski will miss out owing to his three-match suspension.

As reported before, Barcelona have decided not to appeal against the Pole’s suspension, meaning that Xavi will have to tweak his attacking unit on Sunday.
