Injury update: Barcelona defender picks up hamstring injury, will miss El Clasico
Barcelona’s have been far from perfect defensively this season, and their defensive woes only look to continue with Eric Garcia reportedly set to miss El Clasico after suffering a hamstring injury after an underwhelming 1-1 draw to Granada.
Garcia is Barcelona’s 3rd injured defender, following both Araújo and Sergi Roberto, both of whom will be unavailable against Real Madrid on January 13th.
The 20-year-old was in the middle of a fairly decent game against Granada until he abruptly fell to the floor after gesturing to the bench, eventually going off the pitch, and making way for Clément Lenglet, as the Blaugrana would go on to fail to keep a clean sheet, owing to an 89th-minute equaliser.
Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti are the likely replacements for the Spaniard in the crucial upcoming fixtures for Barcelona, although the defensive depth in the squad appears exceedingly scarce at the moment.
This is the 9th current injury for Barcelona, who are having a far from an ideal season at 6th in the La Liga, 15 points behind rivals Real Madrid, a situation that is unlikely to benefit, given the status quo.
In any case, Xavi seems to have quite the task on his hands.
