After a long drawn-out saga, filled with endless speculations and rumours, Barcelona have finally reached a total verbal agreement with Sevilla for the signing of Jules Kounde, confirms Fabrizio Romano.

Barcelona looked down and out in the pursuit of the Frenchman at one point, when Chelsea had reached an agreement with Sevilla over a £55 million deal. However, the defender’s insistence on joining the Blaugrana, after being spoken to by Xavi, meant that the Blues were knocked out of the race.

Barça and Sevilla have been negotiating terms of a deal over the past few days now and Romano now reports that the two clubs have reached a verbal agreement for the transfer.

Barcelona had already made Kounde’s name available for print on jerseys on their official online store, indicating that the deal was well on the way.

The two clubs are now ironing out the final details of the operation before the documents are signed and a transfer is completed. Personal terms are not an issue as Kounde has already agreed a four-year deal with Barcelona last week itself.

Xavi had been pushing hard for the 23-year-old’s signature this summer and it seems like he has gotten his wish. The 42-year-old Barça legend is understood to have played a critical role in the transfer.

The manager speaking to Kounde directly is believed to have convinced the defender to snub Chelsea’s approach.

With the transfer now on the horizon, the French international will become the latest addition to Barcelona’s first-team setup after Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski.
