Barcelona came from behind to play out a 1-1 draw against Napoli in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League knockout playoffs at Camp Nou on Thursday.

The Catalans had a sub-par first period when they failed to test the Napoli goalkeeper. Instead, it was the visitors who took the lead through Piotr Zielinski’s strike in the 30th minute.

Barça came out looking much better in the second half and managed to reinstate parity around the hour-mark via Ferran Torres’ spot-kick. They pushed hard in search for a winner and created several opportunities but failed to take them, with Ferran, in particular, guilty of spurning multiple chances.

The result leaves Xavi Hernandez’s men with everything to do in the second leg at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in a week’s time.

Speaking after the game (h/t Barça TV), senior defender Gerard Pique lamented over the club’s inability to take their chances insisting that Barcelona could have easily won by many goals on the night.

“Our sensations are really good. We could have scored 3, 4, 5 goals even. They arrived once and scored. The worst thing about today is the result,” he said.

Addressing the fans who were whistling Ousmane Dembele during the game, Pique said: “The people are free to whistle whoever they want, but they have to recognize that it affects the team. I please ask them to express themselves after the match.”

The former Spanish international insisted that the team can go all the way in the tournament if they keep playing like this. Our match was great. Our determination to come back showed. We played well, but it couldn’t be. Playing like this we can win this competition,” he added.
