Despite coming second in the battle against their arch-rivals for the fifth consecutive time, Wednesday’s game did not leave a bitter taste in the mouths of Barcelona players or fans. The fighting display was an assurance that the team was on its way back to the top, and was under the right mentorship.

Many Catalan players came out after the game to speak to the media about the display. Barcelona captain Gerard Pique was one of the first players to let his thoughts be known. The defender acknowledged that the team played a very good game despite losing.

“We have competed very well, it was a very entertaining game for the spectator and we have shown that we are closer. It hurts to lose against Madrid, but we have competed very well, taking many risks.”

He then added that with the team going in the right direction, it would not be long before they competed for titles again.

“Playing like this we will start to win and compete for the titles again.”

Ronald Araujo also spoke his heart out after the tough encounter. Despite undergoing surgery less than a week ago, the Uruguayan played the entire game for Barcelona with a spirit nothing less than that of a warrior. He said,

“The future for Barça is bright. Imagine all these players with 60 or 70 games in the First Division.”

One of the most anticipated player returns from injury was that of Pedri Gonzalez. The Golden Boy winner spoke to the media after his first appearance after a long hiatus and said,

“I’m proud of the team because we have competed until the end. On an individual level I have felt good, but of course I was a little tired after so long and just after COVID-19.”
