Barcelona were dealt with a massive blow earlier in the month when the Mercantile Court overturned its decision to grant registration of Gavi to the first team, heeding La Liga’s complaints.

The decision to annul Gavi’s registration meant the midfielder had to relinquish his number six shirt and return to his #30 kit. It also meant that the youngster returns to his old Barça Athletic contract, and the contract extension he signed back in September has not been ratified by La Liga.

Although Gavi is still allowed to represent Barcelona, his contract is set to expire at the end of the season and the player will receive a paltry salary of €1 million per season, as opposed to the €8 million agreed in the new contract.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Gavi is not deterred by his contract situation. The player remains determined and committed to the Barcelona cause and is not bothered by the speculation over his future.

Gavi’s contract situation had indeed put clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City on red alert. But Gavi remains committed to playing for Barcelona as ever. He also harbours the hope of winning titles with the Catalans.

The midfielder is indeed closing in on his first La Liga title, with Barcelona currently attaining a solid 12-point lead at the top of the league table. The club are also in a position to seal the Copa Del Rey title come the end of the season.

As far as his contract situation is concerned, Gavi knows the problem will be resolved sooner rather than later. He wants to wait for it rather than being invested in it.

Barcelona are reportedly planning to take legal action over the decision to annul Gavi’s contract and we can soon expect an update on this situation.
