The nominee list for the Golden Boy 2022 has been whittled down to 40 and as many as four Barcelona stars are in the running to win the prestigious award.

Pedri was the recipient of the honour in 2021 and has once again been named among the nominees even though he endured an injury-riddled campaign last time out.

Joining the 19-year-old midfielder on the nominees’ list is fellow teenage prodigy Gavi. The 18-year-old enjoyed a stunning breakthrough campaign at Barcelona last season and soon became a regular for the Spanish national team as well.

Another Barcelona youngster in contention to win the Golden Boy award is Ansu Fati. Even though the forward endured another injury-riddled season last time out, the 19-year-old showed his class and quality each time he took the field and is in the running for the honour.

The final Barça player on the 40-man shortlist to win the Golden Boy for 2022 is Alejandro Balde. The young full-back made his senior debut last year under Ronald Koeman but spent the season with the club’s reserve team.

However, he has come into his own this season and has become the first-choice left-back at Spotify Camp Nou.

The Barcelona quartet will go up against talents like Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Ryan Gravenberch (Bayern Munich), Antony (Manchester United), Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich), Benjamin Sesko (RB Salzburg), Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid) and Xavi Simons (PSV), among others.

The list will further be shortened to 20 before the jury votes on the winner next month.
