Former Barcelona winger who played alongside both Messi and Ronaldo opens up on debate: “Both very demanding”

Heralded as an incredibly promising young talent, FC Barcelona and SC Braga reached an agreement for the transfer of Francisco Trincao in January 2020.

The Portuguese remained in Barcelona for only one season, before officially joining Sporting CP on a one-year loan deal, which later became permanent.

Recently giving an interview to Betano, via SPORT, Trincao recalled his time in Catalonia, looking back at his Barcelona spell with a positive outlook.

Despite eventually having to part ways, Trincao showed glimpses of his talents and enjoyed ample game time.

“(My time at Barça) was good, I played a lot of games – 42 –, I was also very young, but I’m happy with what I did. It was a great learning experience, he expressed.

Making the gigantic leap from Braga to Barcelona unsurprisingly turned out to be a culture shock for the 23-year-old winger, as he was placed in a dressing room involving some great players, like Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets.

Nonetheless, he acknowledged that the players always treated him well and they aided him in his adaptation process, claiming:

“It’s always a shock because we’re not used to it… They are players that I grew up watching play and it ends up being quite a shock, but they have always treated me well and I adapted naturally,”

The Portuguese added, “They end up being normal people.”

Privileged to have plied his trade alongside arguably two of the greatest footballers to have ever graced the game, Trincao was questioned about the infamous comparison between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Stating both of them are demanding individuals who aspire to win no matter what, he claimed:

“They are both very demanding. Maybe Cristiano seems a little more demanding, but they both want to win at all costs,”
