Barcelona dropped crucial points on Tuesday night as they were held to a 2-2 draw by RCD Mallorca at Son Moix.

The Blaugrana had a great chance to widen their lead over arch-rivals Real Madrid to four points with a win against Javier Aguirre’s men.

But they managed to come away with only a draw, which means that the reigning champions of La Liga are now only two points ahead of Real Madrid, who could move to the top if they beat Las Palmas tonight.

The draw at Mallorca was largely due to Barcelona’s dodgy performances in defence. The backline had been the cornerstone of their La Liga triumph last season but has been a liability this time out.

Indeed, Barcelona have already let in eight goals in just seven games this season, as many as they had conceded after 25 matchweeks during the 2022/23 campaign.

But strikes from Raphinha and Fermin Lopez ensured that Xavi’s men came back with at least one point from the encounter at Son Moix.

With his first-half strike, Raphinha became the second Barça player to reach double figures for goals in 2023 in all competitions (10), after Robert Lewandowski (21).

On top of that, the 26-year-old winger is now the La Liga player to have scored the most goals from outside the box since the start of the year (4).

Meanwhile, Fermin Lopez’s first goal for the senior team on Tuesday meant that the 20-year-old became the 395th player to score for Barcelona in La Liga history.

Even though Lamine Yamal did not start the match against Mallorca, the 16-year-old added a bright spark after coming on as a substitute.

Indeed, in less than 30 minutes on the pitch, the La Masia wonderkid completed four dribbles against Mallorca, more than any player from both teams.
