Conceding a mere goal in his first five La Liga games this season, Marc-Andre ter Stegen has enjoyed his finest start to a league campaign since joining Barcelona in 2014.

The German international’s upturn in form has come as a surprise so far, considering many were calling for his head last term after his fall from grave. As several culers wonder the secret behind the 30-year old’s resurgence, revelations have emerged that explain his rise to the top again.

As per the latest information by Fernando Polo, a key reason behind ter Stegen’s redemption has been the strength work done on his operated knee.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper pulled out of Euro 2020 last year, after deciding to undergo an operation on his right knee with the club’s medical team.

Another factor that has been mentioned is Xavi’s role in giving confidence to the decorated shotstopper.

With Marc-Andre ter Stegen clearly look unassured in between the sticks during his rough patch, the Barcelona boss’ role in supporting his number one behind-the-scenes is thought to be a reason behind his return to form.

Additionally, it is believed that the pressure of underperforming in recent campaigns has driven the experienced goalkeeper to showcase his mettle.

In a similar vein, being handed more responsibility as a leader in the dressing room is said to have positively impacted ter Stegen’s mentality and his displays as a result. He has the backing of his teammates, too.

It also goes without saying that significant defensive improvements made the side, especially with the additions of Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen has meant it has been impossible for attacks to breach the side’s backline.

Ultimately, credit needs to be afforded to Marc-Andre ter Stegen for proving his detractors wrong and rising to the top again.
