As Barcelona continue to ramp up their transfer plans for the summer, the focus will be shifting towards getting the deals for Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde over the line next.
Lewandowski’s transfer has a big roadblock in the form of Bayern Munich, who continue to move the goalposts with regard to their demands for the 33-year-old.
As for Kounde, there could be some positive update for Barcelona fans if recent reports are to be believed. On Wednesday, it was suggested that the 23-year-old Sevilla ace had reached an agreement over personal terms with the Blaugrana.
Now, English journalist Graeme Bailey is claiming that Kounde is ‘increasingly likely’ to join Barcelona this summer, in what could be a part exchange deal which would see Memphis Depay move the other way to Sevilla.
Kounde has been made the top priority target in defence by manager Xavi Hernandez. However, Sevilla’s €60 million demands were out of reach for the Catalan heavyweights, casting doubts over the chances of the deal going through.
Furthermore, there was interest from Chelsea, which also threatened to derail the pursuit of the Blaugrana. However, the Blues have moved on to other targets, with Kalidou Koulibaly, Nathan Ake and Presnel Kimpembe being their priorities now.
It clears up the field for Barça to pursue Kounde. As for the €60 million price tag, despite Sevilla’s insistence that they want a cash-only deal, recent reports indicate that a part-exchange deal with Memphis Depay involved could be a strong possibility.
Such an operation would help the Blaugrana land Kounde for a fee around €35-40 million while offloading a player who is in the final year of his contract and would be down the pecking order following the signings of Ousmane Dembele, Raphinha and potentially Lewandowski.
So, even though the transfer is not yet close, things are certainly looking up for Barcelona with regard to their pursuit of Kounde.
