Even though there are under three weeks left on the contract of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, the saga surrounding his situation continues to drag on.
Recent reports had indicated that the Frenchman had not responded to Barça’s latest contract proposal and had, in turn, agreed terms with Chelsea over a Bosman move.
With PSG also reportedly backing out of the race, all things seemed to point towards Dembele reuniting with Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge when his contract with Barça ran down on June 30.
However, according to a fresh update from RAC1, Dembele still does not close the doors over a renewal at Barcelona. The 25-year-old is believed to have claimed that he has not reached an agreement with any other club and is still hopeful of continuing at Camp Nou.
Despite his insistence privately that he wishes to stay at Barcelona, Dembele has not made a single public statement with regard to his stance while the negotiations have also been mainly driven by his agent, Moussa Dembele.
The 25-year-old was in a rich vein of form in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign and played a key role in helping Barça finish second in La Liga, which ascertained their place in the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup for the upcoming season.
But, despite repeated attempts from the club, an agreement over a contract extension has nowhere been in sight. So much so that, the Catalans have grown fed up of waiting for a response from his camp that they already started planning ahead for the season without him in the season.
The Blaugrana are firm on their stance that they will not be making an improved offer now. It is now up to Dembele and his camp to decide whether they are willing to accept the terms being offered or seek a lucrative contract elsewhere.
