Sergino Dest’s future at Barcelona continues to remain a subject of much speculation.
Signed just under 18 months ago from AFC Ajax, the 21-year-old has found it hard to get going at Camp Nou. The right-back has seemingly fallen out of favour under Xavi Hernandez after back-to-back woeful displays against Real Betis and Bayern Munich last month.
Reports have indicated that the Blaugrana are ready to move him on in January in order to generate some cash inflow while also freeing up room on the wage bill. There has been strong interest from Bayern Munich and Chelsea in the USMNT international, with Atletico Madrid also joining the race now.
Indeed, El Nacional reports that the reigning La Liga champions have set their sights on a January move for Dest. The Rojiblancos are set to lose first-choice right-back Kieran Trippier, who is on the verge of completing a transfer to Premier League club Newcastle United.
With his imminent departure set to create a void in the defensive line, Atleti have identified Dest as a viable option to replace the England international.
The report goes on to add that Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has taken a personal interest in the transfer, and has called up Dest to convince him to leave Camp Nou in favour of a switch to Wanda Metropolitano.
However, despite the interest from the champions of Spain, the 21-year-old right-back is uninterested in switching clubs in the January transfer window.
The report claims that the ex-Ajax starlet is aware that competition will increase as Dani Alves is set to be officially registered as a Barça player. But, the United States defender is confident that his versatile nature and age can help aid his cause, as he looks to achieve success with the Catalan giants.
So, despite Simeone taking a keen interest in signing Dest, it seems like the Dutchman will turn down a move to the Wanda Metropolitano.
