On the eve of his presentation as a Barcelona player, Memphis Depay gave an interview on Barca TV+ where he spoke about his first days in the Catalan capital and his feelings heading into the official presentation.

The Dutch forward was first questioned about his feelings on his big day. To this, he replied, “I’m speechless right now. I’m afraid I’m going to ruin this presentation. Since my childhood, I have been dreaming of playing for Barcelona and winning titles.”

When he was asked about the city and his first days settling into Barcelona, the new signing said, “There is an atmosphere of calmness, quality of infrastructure. Everything is great here.”

When talking about the environment and city, he went on to add, “I think people here will treat me well. The atmosphere of this city is great and the people are very friendly. I think I’m a person who loves people and I’ll like it.”

The former Olympique Lyonnais player then spoke about the prestige and level of FC Barcelona. He said, “Everything looks massive here. Manchester United are a great team as well, Lyon and PSV Eindhoven are good sides too. But here, things are different.”

His final comments of the interview were on the playing style that Barcelona has historically been associated with and how he would fit into the ideology. He said, “I’m in love with football. The way the team plays by building from the back is something that I already did in Holland. It fits me.”

Depay has already completed his first training session as a Barcelona player under Ronald Koeman earlier this week. He was excluded from the squad for the first game, but it remains to be seen if he will have a part to play in the coming friendlies.

I’ve watched football for years, but never again felt that special tug that I experienced when I watched Barcelona play for the first time.
