Dembele open to leaving Barcelona in January; Chelsea in pole position for his signature

The developments in Barcelona’s forward department are too fast to keep track of. The soap opera of Ousmane Dembele’s renewal, Ansu Fati’s injuries, and new arrivals make it by far the most eventful part of the team.

According to reports from Cadena SER, Dembele is now more open to a departure in January than ever before. However, the Frenchman still prioritizes staying in Barcelona.

This update comes off the back of an ultimatum issued by the club to the player’s agent yesterday. In the meeting with Moussa Sissoko, it was emphasized that Dembele fails to secure an exit or renew his contract, he would be sent to the stands.

Manchester United and Newcastle United were said to be leading the race to sign the pacy winger. However, Chelsea jumped into the mix recently as Thomas Tuchel hopes for a reunion with the 24-year-old.

As things stand, the London-based side are in a prime position to sign him in January, according to Fichajes.

If the Frenchman decides to extend his contract, he will find it difficult to break into the team. Ferran Torres’ arrival poses a direct threat to Dembele’s position. However, the reported signing of Adama Traore puts further pressure on the youngster.

The winger’s decision is of prime importance to the club because many awaited transfers hinge on it. Dembele’s renewal or sale will help lighten the wage bill and hence permit Barcelona to sign a forward and left-back.

With just five days left for the window to close, rapid developments are expected. Barcelona will need to sort out Dembele’s future immediately if they are to fulfill their dreams of signing Alvaro Morata or Alejandro Grimaldo.
