With just a week left for Ousmane Dembele’s contract with Barcelona to expire, contrasting reports continue to emerge on the future of the 25-year-old.
The French international has refused to sign the proposal tabled by the Blaugrana thus far and has been widely expected to move on as a free agent.
There have been reports of a move to Chelsea, with the Blues said to be in advanced talks with the winger. PSG are understood to have had a verbal agreement with the player’s camp over a summer move.
But, Dembele, interacting with a fan recently, hinted that he would likely continue at Barcelona, even though he is yet to sign a new deal.
Now, CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs has provided an update on the entire situation with regard to Dembele and his future. As per the journalist, at the moment, neither Chelsea nor PSG have tabled any contract proposals for the former Borussia Dortmund winger.
Indeed, the only offer that he currently has on the table is that of Barcelona, which he is yet to sign, leading to frustrations within the Catalan camp.
Ben Jacobs adds that Chelsea have held talks with Dembele, but there has been no recent advancement on that front. Furthermore, he claims that the Premier League giants are prioritising a move for Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling over Dembele.
The 27-year-old Sterling is set for a summer exit from the Etihad Stadium as he is unhappy with his reduced stature in Pep Guardiola’s side. With his contract expiring in 2023, the England international has decided to move on, and Chelsea are keen to sign him.
With Thomas Tuchel’s side making Sterling a priority, it leaves Dembele with Barcelona as the only option unless Chelsea make swift a U-turn on their transfer plans.
Reports on Wednesday claimed that the Frenchman had decided to accept the offer that the Blaugrana have tabled. Only time will tell if those claims are true, but as things stand, Dembele could be left with no choice but to agree to the terms proposed by Barça.
