Barcelona youngster Gavi has enjoyed a stellar rise to stardom over the past couple of years. The midfielder is a fan favourite at Spotify Camp Nou, having endeared himself to the fans with his energy, attitude, commitment, and fearlessness.

The La Masia prodigy is the current Golden Boy winner and a regular starter for both Xavi Hernandez’s Barcelona and the Spanish national team.

Naturally, his contract registration issues have piqued the interest of several top clubs across Europe. Barcelona handed Gavi a new contract in September last year, but have failed to register him as a first-team player with La Liga.

Amidst reports that Gavi has a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave the club for free if not registered by July 1, Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for the Spanish international.

The Blues were reported to be willing to offer him a big-money contract and a lucrative signing bonus.

However, according to fresh reports from Ben Jacobs (via Caught Offside), Chelsea are not interested in the Gavi at the moment despite the recent rumours and speculations surrounding the Blues and the Barcelona youngster.

They did meet with the player’s agent, Ivan de la Pena, recently but the meeting was surrounding the possible appointment of Luis Enrique as their new manager as opposed to Gavi’s signature.

Following the overturning of his first-team registration last month, Gavi is back on a youth contract at Barcelona.

But, the Blaugrana are not worried about the situation as the player wants to remain at the club for a long time. And, all signs indicate that the teenager will be handed a first-team contract in the summer.

Gavi has made 28 La Liga appearances for Barcelona this season, starting on 23 occasions. While primarily a midfielder, most of his starts have come as a false left-winger as part of the manager’s four-midfielder approach.

The 18-year-old has three assists and a goal to show so far this season in La Liga in addition to 1.2 key passes per game and five big chances created.
