It is no secret that Barcelona are set to enter the market for a new forward in the coming summer.

Following the January exit of Memphis Depay, coupled with the uncertain future of Ansu Fati, the club are desperately looking for someone that can serve as an alternative for Robert Lewandowski.

Barça’s primary option right now is Vitor Roque. The young Brazilian has been considered a strategic target for the Catalans, as he has shown immense potential and could be an ideal long-term replacement for Lewandowski.

However, with Athletico Paranaense holding out for a fee of around €50 million for Vitor Roque, signing the youngster could be a tricky business. That is where Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang comes into the fray.

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Aubameyang has become a ‘clear option’ for Barcelona in the coming summer. It appears the club are strongly considering the possibility of signing the forward, as an alternative for Lewandowski.

The Gabonese centre-forward did enjoy a fruitful short spell in Catalonia last year, scoring 13 goals in 24 competitive matches. But after joining Chelsea in the summer, he has struggled to make his presence felt and is not even included in the club’s Champions League squad.

Aubameyang, therefore, is keen on returning to Barcelona and is willing to settle for the lowest salary bracket. This could make him an appealing target for Barça, especially if the player is available for a cut-price deal or even for a free transfer.

The report adds that Aubameyang is a player that is valued by Barcelona both in the sporting department and by the technical staff.

He is seen as a good, low-cost or even zero-cost option, amid talks of Chelsea terminating his contract, who would be a backup for Lewandowski and bring a good atmosphere in the dressing room.

The former Arsenal captain also has substantial experience at the highest level of football, thus making him a potential coup for the Catalans.
