Frenkie de Jong has been one of the darlings of the transfer window in Europe this summer, with the Barcelona midfielder becoming the centre of attention throughout the past couple of months.

The Dutchman has been strongly subjected to a move away from Camp Nou, with Barcelona openly looking to move him on, in an attempt to balance the finances.

However, with just a few days remaining until the transfer market slams to a shut, it appears de Jong is set to remain at Barcelona, as per reports from Ben Jacobs.

The English journalist suggests the midfielder’s wish to remain at Camp Nou will be granted. It is more of a positive for the player rather than the club, who were actively looking to find new suitors for the midfielder throughout the summer transfer window.

To their misfortune, de Jong’s primary suitors Manchester United have “all but given up”. They had recently signed Casemiro and are not expected to re-establish their efforts to sign the Dutchman.

Chelsea were deemed as another possible suitor for the former Ajax starlet. But the Blues have not made great progress in their pursuit either and their chances of signing the midfielder are seemingly dissipating.

There were reports of Chelsea launching a final offensive to sign de Jong, but that is unlikely to yield any significant outcome.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have moved on from de Jong and are looking elsewhere for midfield reinforcements. It would not come as a surprise to see them not signing a midfielder at all and wait until 2023, to go after someone like Jude Bellingham or even de Jong.

Barcelona, for their part, might not be too glum about the prospect of keeping hold of de Jong. The Dutchman is rated highly by the club and his presence in the side should offer some real quality in the middle of the park, especially in light of Sergio Busquets’ waning powers.
