Despite strengthening their attack significantly in the January transfer window, Barcelona are expected to go after forwards in the summer.

Ousmane Dembele’s departure will open up a spot in the squad while the likes of Martin Braithwaite, Luuk de Jong and Memphis Depay are also likely to leave, further creating space in the squad for a new attacker or two.

Erling Haaland remains the top priority for the Blaugrana, but at least another forward, who can play out wide, could arrive at Camp Nou in the summer.

Fichajes reports that AFC Ajax winger Antony is a target for the Catalan giants but they are currently trailing Premier League bigwigs Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign the Brazilian.

A product of the Sao Paulo youth academy, Antony moved to Ajax in 2020 and has quickly become a household name in European football. The 21-year-old is enjoying a highly impressive 2021/22 campaign, having netted 11 goals and set up eight more in just 25 games in all competitions.

The five-time capped Brazilian international has attracted the interest of several bigwigs in Europe, with Real Madrid also believed to be his admirers, apart from Barcelona. However, the report states that the two Premier League clubs are currently leading in the race.

That is because both Chelsea and Manchester United have already made an approach to Ajax to explore the possibility of a transfer at the end of the season. The Premier League clubs have a good relationship with the Dutch champions, which does put them in a favourable position with regard to Antony’s signing.

However, with the winger’s contract running until 2025, he will not come cheap. Whether Barcelona make any overtures to try and sign him or let the forward move to England remains to be seen.
