Barcelona are making progress in their pursuit of AFC Ajax defender Noussair Mazraoui, whose arrival could have an impact on some of the current squad members.

Mazraoui is in the final few months of his contract and is all set to leave the Dutch giants, with a move to Barça seemingly close to completion. His potential arrival would raise question marks over the future of current right-back Sergino Dest.

The USMNT star also arrived from Ajax in 2020 but has failed to convince of his abilities. He seemed to have fallen out of favour during the early stages of Xavi Hernandez’s tenure, but has recently worked his way back into the setup, even showing improvements in his game.

But with Mazraoui’s impending signing and Dani Alves’ presence in the squad, Dest is likely to fall down the pecking order at Camp Nou. And German outlet Sport1 (h/t Mundo Deportivo) reports that Bayern Munich are prepared to offer the defender a way out in the summer.

The Bavarian giants had shown interest in Dest before his arrival at Camp Nou and also tried to sign him in the summer transfer window last year but to no avail. They are now hoping to be third time lucky in their pursuit of the 21-year-old right-back.

While Die Roten are also interested in Mazraoui, they believe it will be hard to beat Barça for his signing and have instead turned their focus towards Dest. As per the report, they will be offering around €20 million for the right-back.

It remains to be seen whether Barcelona, who shelled out €21 million plus €5 million in variables for Dest, are willing to accept Bayern Munich’s proposal in the summer window.
