Injuries have plagued Barcelona in recent weeks, and the midfield has particularly suffered from the lack of depth.

As a result, the club have had to resort to makeshift lineups in the past couple of games, and that has translated into some very frustrating performances where they eked out 1-0 wins and drew on two other occasions.

This may force the Catalans to look to the market in January and bring in reinforcements, but as always, their finances will act as a big roadblock.

According to reports from Tot Costa, Barcelona’s priority is to bring in a midfielder to shore up the squad and mitigate the lack of depth in that area in case of any more injuries.

Not to mention, Oriol Romeu was signed as a stop-gap solution in that pivot position, which Barcelona will need to take care of in the future.

Player departures are necessary

After another busy summer window, the Catalans are still far from falling in line with Financial Fair Play regulations, and are still exceeding their salary cap.

As such, it is tougher to make any more signings because doubts arise about their registrations even if they are able to find money to pay the transfer fee.

Similar doubts have cropped up about Vitor Roque, but the aforementioned report also says that the Barcelona financial staff have assured Xavi and Deco that Roque will be registered.

Thus, even if the Catalans have identified targets in the midfield, they will have to make sales to get anyone in.

And given the lack of depth already, there is no chance Barcelona can afford to let go of anyone from the first team.

In the meantime, Barcelona could turn to a few La Masia midfielders to deputise for their key absentees.
