Joan Laporta’s presidential advisor Enric Masip recently did an interview with Rondeando, expressing his thoughts on several players, including Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe, who he feels could be headed to Real Madrid.

The highlight of the interview was when Masip was asked about Neymar. In what was a scathing attack on the Brazilian, the presidential advisor suggested the attacker plays for the team which hands him the most lucrative contracts.

“Personally, Neymar has always shown that he picks the team that gives him the most money. That’s why we’d rather sign players that would give their life up for Barça. Even if they have less talent.”

Neymar has been linked with a return to Camp Nou in the past, but with Xavi enjoying immense success with a far younger group of players, the door appears to have closed.

Speaking about Barcelona’s shift in policy when it comes to team building, Masip said: “What Laporta does is speak about prudence. We have to get back the desire of players to play for Barça. We’d rather have a person who is fully committed to the team than a ‘crack’ who is there by name.”

The 52-year-old went on to cite PSG as an ideal example of how a team cannot be built simply by adding top individuals.

PSG shows that the power of the team is much superior than the power individuals can have. But if you have both, good. Without Messi at Barcelona, everyone has had to change. People have woken up and a team has been achieved,” he said.

Masip also offered an update on Ousmane Dembele’s situation at Barça. He indirectly urged the Frenchman to reduce the salary demands, stating:

“Players must enter our salary cap for next season. There can be no exorbitant salaries. Barça’s situation now is much more seductive than it was in December. Now, it should be easier to bet on the team.”

Finally, Enric Masip was asked about Kylian Mbappe. The Spaniard feels the PSG superstar could join Real Madrid next season, but firmly believes he won’t be in the same team as Erling Haaland.

“Personally, I think that Mbappe has had a pre-agreement with Madrid for a long while now. Now, it’s true that his statements sometimes can make people think otherwise. I don’t see him playing next to Haaland at Madrid.”
