Earlier this week, Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that manager Xavi Hernandez had requested the signing of two more midfielders and a right-back to make the team competitive in Europe.

The Blaugrana have already added Ilkay Gundogan to their roster, but Xavi wants to sign a pivot midfielder and another creative operator with a good final pass so as to relieve some of the burden from Pedri.

Manchester City mainstay Bernardo Silva has been the dream acquisition for the La Liga champions for several transfer windows now.

And even though his signing had been deemed difficult due to the financial constraints, Mundo Deportivo is now claiming that Barça will go after the signing of the Portuguese international in the ongoing transfer window.

Silva, for his part, is understood to be ‘crazy’ about a possible transfer to Barcelona and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola would be open to sanctioning an exit if the player asks to leave.

And having won the UEFA Champions League last season, the former AS Monaco ace could decide to ask for an exit this summer.

The report states that Xavi is insistent on the signing of the 28-year-old, whose market value stands at €80 million, and the actual operation could cost even higher than that.

And even though those within Barcelona realise that a transfer will be difficult, they are prepared to make efforts to try and fulfil the manager’s request.

A loan deal with a purchase option could be explored, although convincing Manchester City over such an operation will be difficult. But, Barça have a good relationship with Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes, and they could leverage that to try and engineer a move.

The Financial Fair Play situation would also be a major concern, but it has recently been suggested that La Liga president Javier Tebas is willing to make some relaxations over the same to help the Spanish clubs, which might allow Barça to sign more players.

Barcelona, though, are aware that they must act quickly if they wish to sign Silva as Manchester City would only let him leave if they have enough time to secure a replacement.

The 28-year-old’s contract at the Etihad runs until the summer of 2025 and is also attracting some serious interest from PSG as well as clubs in Saudi Arabia. But Silva has not made any movements as of now as he is waiting to see if Barcelona can be a real option.
