Barcelona want to sign a ‘big right-back’ next summer – Fabrizio Romano

It is no coincidence that Barcelona’s upturn in form domestically has occurred simultaneously with their excellent summer business.

Bringing in floor-raisers in different areas of the pitch such as Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde, to name a few, Barça currently look like the favourites to win La Liga, currently topping the league table.

Raphinha has shown signs of being an incredible alternative to Ousmane Dembele at right wing and the versatile Franck Kessie is a useful option to have in the middle of the park.

It is in the full-back areas, where problems persist, especially at right-back, as Hector Bellerin is the only natural to occupy the position.

However, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano is a bearer of good news for culers, as he has revealed that Barcelona wish to sign a big-name player to reinforce the position.

A latest report has suggested that Barça are planning the signing of two right-backs on free transfers, such as Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot and Torino’s Wilfried Singo.

With the club having a wage bill of €656 million and having spent big in the summer, it has been claimed that the club’s priority is to bring in players on Bosman deals.

Financially, this would make complete sense whilst also adding more depth to the right-back position, which is sorely missing.

After all, Barcelona’s second-choice right-back option after Hector Bellerin is Jules Kounde, who is a centre-back by trade.

With both Bellerin and Kounde currently out injured, left-back Alejandro Balde was called upon to deputise in an unfamiliar role in his side’s narrow 1-0 win against Celta Vigo.

As a result, Fabrizio Romano’s revelation will help culers breathe a sigh of relief, as the club are in desperate need of a brand-new right-back.
