Barcelona want 26-year-old Portuguese forward on loan with a purchase option
As Barcelona prepare to bid goodbye to Memphis Depay, manager Xavi Hernandez is seeking a replacement for the Netherlands international.
Depay will be signing for Atletico Madrid on a permanent basis in a deal worth €3 million. While he was not a regular in the side, Xavi agreed to sanction his sale only on the condition that the Blaugrana sign a replacement.
And according to Javi Miguel of AS, Barcelona have identified Wolves and Portugal forward Goncalo Guedes as the desired candidate to come in and replace Memphis.
The 26-year-old is available on the market as Wolves have brought in new attacking reinforcements this summer. And the Catalan giants are hoping to make the most of it by signing him before the month ends.
As per the report, Xavi has already spoken to Guedes and the versatile winger is excited about the Barcelona project and would be open to making the move.
The fact that he is represented by Jorge Mendes, who has a good relationship with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, could make the deal easier.
The report further adds that Barcelona want to sign Guedes on a loan deal until the end of the season, due to their financial fair play problems, while including a non-mandatory purchase option included in the operation.
Barcelona and Wolves had worked on a similar deal last January as well, involving Adama Traore. The Spanish winger, however, was not signed permanently by the La Liga leaders.
On top of that, Gerard Romero is adding that the Blaugrana only want to cover a part of Guedes’ salary during the potential loan stint, with Wolves paying the rest.
Guedes has past experience in La Liga, having played over 170 matches for Valencia. The Portuguese international would add depth on the left flank while also being able to operate through the middle as well.
With Xavi open to signing him and the player keen on the move, it is now up to Barcelona to negotiate and strike an agreement with Wolves.
