Barcelona veteran to make final decision over his club and country future next week

When one looks back fondly at the photos of Barcelona’s golden generation that decimated teams for fun, it would not take long to realise that just one player from that crop remains. After the departure of Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique’s retirement, Sergio Busquets is the lone representative of the special team.
However, that could change soon. After the Spanish National Team’s shocking departure from the World Cup against Morocco, the Barcelona captain is said to have been thrown into deep thought regarding his professional future.
According to reports from MARCA, Sergio Busquets will make a final decision regarding his future, both for club and country, within the next week. He is currently on vacation, lost in retrospection, and wishes to return with mental clarity.
Busquets’ contract with the Catalans runs out in June, and the player has shown no interest in continuing at Spotify Camp Nou beyond that point. His departure has been on the cards for a long time now, and its announcement may be just around the corner.
If the veteran midfielder leaves Barcelona, he is likely to join a club in the MLS as a swansong at the end of an illustrious career. Concurrently, there are good chances that he officially retires from international duty.
Sergio Busquets shared a close bond with former manager Luis Enrique and their friendship was the only factor that could keep him committed to continuing for Spain. With Enrique parting ways with La Roja, it is just a matter of time before the Spanish captain bids adieu too.
In his long and special career, the legendary midfielder has won the World Cup, the European Championships, three UEFA Champions League titles, eight La Liga titles and seven Copa del Reys. All this comes in addition to 12 other trophies in his cabinet for Barcelona including the Club World Cup.
