Barcelona very close to signing Premier League left-back – Fabrizio Romano

After failing to sign Cesar Azpilicueta, Barcelona have stepped up their pursuit of Marcos Alonso. Fabrizio Romano says they are, in fact, very close to signing him.

Chelsea have reportedly struck a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion for Marc Cucurella, which allows Alonso to leave Stamford Bridge without many problems.

The player is on the last year of his contract with Chelsea, which makes him an affordable option for Barcelona.

The Catalan giants had already reached an agreement on personal terms with the player long back. He will reportedly sign on a three-year deal.

Moreover, it has been reported that Alonso is also willing to take a significant pay-cut to push his move to Barcelona.

That said, he will largely serve as Jordi Alba’s backup for the majority of next season. His offensive qualities make him an ideal candidate for any possible switch to a three-man defence that Xavi is planning.

The deal could be processed in the coming days, and is now only dependent on Thomas Tuchel’s green light.
