Barcelona, in an attempt to offload Memphis Depay without enduring a loss, have been exploring possible swap deal options this winter.
The option of Thomas Lemar was reportedly the first proposal that came Barcelona’s way through Atletico Madrid, but was rejected.
The Catalans themselves then made a brave offer to Diego Simeone’s men, hoping to get Yannick Carrasco in trade for Memphis, but was unsurprisingly turned down.
While Memphis was reportedly happy to join Atletico, reports of his exit to Serie A started coming to the fore, with Inter Milan reportedly interested in his services. Gerard Romero even went as far as to claim that a swap deal involving Joaquin Correa and Memphis was accelerating.
However, according to Javi Miguel, Barcelona have been unsuccessful with the barter. As such, the Carrasco option remains the most interesting to them, despite the initial rejection from Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish journalist has also claimed that Xavi has repudiated the idea of swapping Correa with Memphis.
The 28-year-old Argentine is in a different situation compared to Memphis, with two years left on his contract with Inter. His playing time, however, has been reduced to 15 games this season, out of which just three have been starts.
In this time, he has scored three goals and assisted one goal.
That said, he is not the only player Barcelona and Inter are in talks for. Reports have suggested that Franck Kessie’s name has been involved in a swap deal for Marcelo Brozovic, but the operation depends on the two players’ willingness to move.
The operation could, however, accelerate following the Italian cup final, which takes place on Wednesday.
With a fortnight remaining in the winter transfer window, Barcelona will be exploring multiple deals like this, especially with several players, including Eric Garcia, Raphinha, and Ferran Torres reportedly up for sale.
