With Deco taking over as the sporting director at FC Barcelona, there appears to be a distinct focus on the Brazilian market for reinforcements.

The Blaugrana have already secured the signing of Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense, with the teenage striker set to arrive in 2024.

Beyond that, the La Liga champions have been tracking several young prospects in the South American footballing scenes, owing to Deco’s deep knowledge of the market.

Gabriel Moscardo on Barcelona’s radar

And, as per Joaquim Piera of SPORT, Corinthians midfield prodigy Gabriel Moscardo is a player that is on the radars of Barcelona, with Deco understood to like the teenager very much.

Moscardo is a product of the Corinthians’ youth setup and despite being just 17 years old, he is already playing senior football for the Brazilian giants.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Moscardo has featured 11 times for the first team and has played 12 times for the club’s Under-20 side as well.

With Barcelona bidding goodbye to Sergio Busquets in the summer, the Blaugrana have been on the lookout for a long-term heir to the former captain even though Oriol Romeu arrived this summer.

As such, Moscardo was a player on the agenda at the club, with the report stating that Deco studied the possibility of signing the 17-year-old between May and June, at a time when he was yet to make his first-team debut.

But Barcelona’s hands were tied due to the Financial Fair Play situation and as such Deco’s attempts to secure Moscardo’s services for 2024 did not pan out.

And now, it is Chelsea who appear set to sign the 17-year-old pivot midfielder.

The Blues have been making big moves for Brazilian talents of late, having signed the likes of Andrey Santos and Angelo Gabriel – both targets for Barça at some point in the past, as well as Deivid Washington.

And now, they are also poised to complete the capture of Moscardo in a deal worth around €30 million as per the report.
