After much speculation about a possible return to Barcelona this summer, Neymar is now on the verge of joining Saudi Arabian outfit Al Hilal, reports David Ornstein of The Athletic.

Neymar had been heavily linked with a move to Barça this summer after it became clear that he would be leaving PSG.

The speculations mounted further following Ousmane Dembele’s departure, with reports suggesting that the 31-year-old Brazilian was determined to return to Barcelona and was willing to make big sacrifices on wages to return to the club.

The Catalan giants’ president Joan Laporta was understood to be high on the move, although manager Xavi Hernandez was not totally convinced. But Barça were interested and were making attempts to get Neymar back.

However, with Al Hilal making a huge offer to him and PSG, the chances of a return to Barça quickly diminished.

The Brazilian international is currently undergoing his medicals ahead of the proposed move which would see him join the Saudi Arabian club for two years with no option for a further extension.

Reports earlier today from SPORT suggested that the 31-year-old tried to convince the club to allow him to join Barcelona on loan for a season but they would not approve.

As such, Neymar returning to Barça, in any way, is off the table and the Brazilian international will be signing a lucrative two-year contract in the Middle East.

It will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana decide to go after someone like Joao Felix now that Neymar’s comeback is ruled out.

The Atletico Madrid forward could be available on loan, while there is a possibility of swapping him and Ansu Fati, which has not been completely ruled out at this point.
