Barcelona superstar on contract renewal: “My agent is taking care of that, I’m happy here”

Providing a positive update on his renewal, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has stated that he is happy at the club and that the matters related to his contract are being taken care of by his agent.
De Jong’s current contract runs until the summer of 2026, but Barça are understood to be eager to tie him down to a new and longer contract, which would come with a salary reduction.
De Jong happy at Barcelona
While it has been reported that De Jong is in no rush to sign a new contract with Barcelona, the midfielder admitted that he is happy at the club, following their recent 5-0 win over Royal Antwerp.
“My contract renewal? My agent is taking care of that, but I’m happy here,” De Jong said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist adds that the 26-year-old midfielder has always wanted to stay at Barcelona as he loves the club and the city.
With both the player and the club seeking the same outcome, a renewal agreement could very likely be finalised, although it is likely to take some time, as reported by Romano himself in the past.
De Jong on 5-0 win over Royal Antwerp

Apart from providing an update on his contract renewal, De Jong also spoke about Barcelona’s last night’s performance against Royal Antwerp with the media.
“It’s only the first game. We’ve started well, but we have to prove it in the games to come. It’s too early,” said De Jong, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
The Netherlands international also showered praise on new signing Joao Felix, who scored two goals and set up one more last night.
“He has a lot of quality, a lot of talent and he is showing it. I hope he can continue like this and if he keeps working like he is now I think he will bring us a lot,” said De Jong.
The Barcelona superstar also had words of praise for Felix’s compatriot Joao Cancelo, as he said:
“He’s a full-back but he gets into the midfield a lot. That’s one of the qualities he has, he has a lot, especially in attack. I hope we can continue like that.”
