As reported by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are still in negotiations with young goalkeeper Arnau Tenas over a new contract.

Tenas’ continuity at Barcelona has been under immense scrutiny especially after the Blaugrana decided not to exercise the option of an automatic extension for two more years.

Last month, the 22-year-old academy graduate went public to reveal the same, saying that his association with the Catalan team is about to end.

“It has come out that Barça will not carry out the renewal. It is true and I can confirm it. For now, I’m with the national team and I’m focused on that,” he said.

Right now, however, it has been reported that the player and the club are still in negotiations but the positions of the two parties remain quite far apart. However, there is a belief that an agreement can be reached.

Going back, it must be remembered that Barcelona decided not to trigger an automatic extension due to economic issues. The Catalans deemed that the raise in Tenas’ wages as part of the two-year extension did not fit the club’s current economic reality.

Meanwhile, doubts over Tenas’ future has forced Barça Atletic to look for a replacement. At the moment, Tenas and Ander Astralaga are the only keepers in the subsidiary team.

So in order to avoid any mishaps next season, the team has decided to rope in 23-year-old Andorra stopper Marc Vidal. He will sign on loan for Barça Atletic for two seasons and Dani Martín will take his place at Andorra.

As for Tenas, we have reported before that although Barcelona are willing to offer the young keeper a new contract, the figures in his new deal will be lower than what he would have earned if the automatic renewal was triggered.

Ultimately, if it does not work out between Tenas and Barcelona, the stopper can choose from the multiple options he has at the moment, including Real Betis.
