Barcelona star’s injury not serious, confirms international teammate: “Will recover quickly”

Speaking to NOS (h/t Mundo Deportivo), former Barcelona striker and Netherlands international Memphis Depay has claimed that Frenkie de Jong’s injury is not serious and that the midfielder will recover quickly.
De Jong has grown into a vital part of Xavi’s system at Barcelona over the past few months. One of the most important cogs in the side, the Netherlands ace has been critical to the Catalans’ ascent to the top of the league standings.
De Jong put in a starring performance this past weekend in the 2-1 win over Real Madrid that helped Barça establish a 12-point lead over their arch-rivals.
However, it came at some cost as Ronald Araujo and De Jong both picked up injuries during the game. As a result, the duo had to withdraw from Uruguay and the Netherlands national team squads for the ongoing international break.
Depay spoke about his former Barcelona teammate during an interview today and claimed that not having him with the Dutch national team setup ahead of important fixtures against France and Gibraltar in the UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers.
At the same time, he revealed that De Jong’s injury was not very serious, as he said:
“I’m annoyed that Frenkie de Jong didn’t come with the Dutch national team. He is very important. I called him and he doesn’t have a serious injury, he will recover very quickly…”
“I’m close to Frenkie and I’m disappointed,” he added, expressing his displeasure about the midfielder’s absence from the national team camp.
Barcelona will be hoping that De Jong’s recovery is on track and that he is able to recover in time for their La Liga clash against Elche on April 1. It will be crucial, considering that Pedri has been ruled out of action for one more month.
