Despite a heartbreaking end to the Euros for Luis Enrique and his Spain side, there have been a plethora of positives to take from the tournament for La Roja. In their semi-final run, there has been a massive influx of talent and youthfulness with players who will make their country proud in the future.

One of the if not the brightest spark for the Spaniards was Barcelona starlet Pedri Gonzalez. The Canarian, who arrived seemingly out of nowhere last season from Las Palmas and barged into the Catalans’ first team with his immense talent, has also made major waves at the Euro 2020.

Pedri has arguably been Spain’s best player and one of the most exciting players at the whole tournament. And as a result of his incredible efforts, Spanish outlet SPORT report that the teenager will be crowned the Best Young Player of the Tournament.

A few days ago, it was also reported that the midfielder is also among the favourites to win the prestigious Golden Boy award. The individual honours would be more feathers in his cap after a stellar debut season for both club and country.

Pedri played 629 out of the 630 minutes of Spain’s outings at the European Championships, being their most-used player by Luis Enrique, who lavished praise on the youngster by likening him to the great Andres Iniesta and stating that he has never seen an 18-year old play a tournament like this.

The UEFA technical staff, in charge of naming the Man of the Match and carrying out the match reports, see Pedri as one of the standout players, with Italian Federico Chiesa and Danish Andres Skov Olsen among the other candidates. But both players are five and three years older than Pedri respectively.

This staff of technical observers also includes the revered Italian coach Fabio Capello and former Argentina midfielder Esteban Cambiasso. Barring any major events ahead of the tournament’s conclusion, Pedri will be chosen for the accolade.
