Bayern Munich are still interested in signing Sergino Dest despite missing out on the former Ajax youngster back in 2020, reports Italian journalist and transfer market specialist Rudy Galetti.

Galetti says the 21-year-old is not in Xavi’s plans and that the club is willing to cash on him in order to register Ferran Torres. For that, though, Barcelona are requesting a fee in the region of around €25-30 million.

The record German champions had expressed their interest in the USMNT full-back back in 2020 when Dest was on a move from Ajax. Former Bayern coach Hansi Flick wanted to bring him, but the versatile defender, who has featured 13 times for Barcelona in La Liga this season, chose Catalunya over the Bavarians.

Two years on, and Bayern’s interest remain intact. Despite a change in management, new boss Julian Nagelsmann has the same admiration for the player like Flick had. The likelihood of this transfer actually happening, however, depends on Dest’s stand.

Dest wants to stay and fulfil his contract until 2025, though. Barcelona have no problem in pulling some cash by his sale. With a lot happening in the January transfer market, Barcelona are aware of all the interests.

Apart from Bayern Munich, Chelsea seem to have registered an interest, although the Blues are only seeing him as a second option. Another team in line is La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid who are actively hunting a right-back following Kieran Trippier’s move to Newcastle United.

As for Bayern, reports did say that the Germans had contact with Barça a few weeks ago, but that was about a loan deal for the full-back or ‘general conditions for a transfer in the summer’. No official offer, however, was made at the time.

Above all, though, it is certain that Barcelona would not accept anything lower than what they paid Ajax for the USMNT full-back in 2020, which is a €21 million fee plus a further €5 million in variables. The financial needs of the club are well documented and despite the suitors having the leverage, Dest’s stance of staying at Barcelona is giving the club an upper hand.
