Shortly after announcing the exit of Ousmane Dembele, Barcelona appear to be on the verge of securing a deal for Joao Cancelo.
The Manchester City defender looks all set to join the Catalan outfit on a loan deal. The two parties are close to reaching a total agreement.
In light of the recent revelation over Cancelo’s future, Javi Miguel has come up with an update on Barcelona’s pursuit of Bernardo Silva.
Cancelo deal could impact Bernardo Silva pursuit
As per Miguel, Cancelo’s potential arrival at Camp Nou could impact Barcelona’s pursuit of Bernardo Silva.
It was earlier revealed that Barça are not in a position to finance a move for the Portuguese playmaker, even though he was willing to leave Man City.
Barcelona, instead, have opted to go after his Portuguese compatriot Cancelo. The former Bayern loanee is expected to become the club’s number one choice in the right-back position this season.
Manchester City, meanwhile, do not want to sell Silva to Barcelona either. They want to avoid doing a hat-trick of sorts by letting three of their top players to join the Catalan outfit this summer.
What’s next for Barcelona?
Should Barça miss out on Silva, the club could be in a precarious situation in regard to their pursuit of a new attacking midfielder.
With Dembele joining PSG, the club are without a reliable replacement. Silva was the preferred option for coach Xavi, but it appears the club must look elsewhere.
One option is re-signing Neymar. The Brazilian international is reportedly keen on returning to Camp Nou, six years after leaving the club.
The return of Neymar is possible, but it won’t be straightforward and would require a lot of things to go right.
