Barcelona signing a winger on loan is still possible – report

Barcelona are actively working in the market to sign a new player at the last minute of this ongoing January transfer window.
The club were able to secure deals for players such as Hector Bellerin and Marcos Alonso during the transfer deadline day in the summer. They are looking to achieve a similar feat in this January, although the club’s financial situation is completely different.
Reports from earlier in the day suggested that Barcelona are looking for a new winger in the final hours of the market. They have no shortage of alternatives and are assessing their options in the market, as they look to alleviate the loss of Memphis Depay.
The Dutchman joined Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal earlier in the month, leaving a void in the club’s attacking unit.
According to Laia Trude Prades (h/t Reshad Rahman), Barcelona are even open to signing a new winger on a loan deal, in an attempt to adhere to the Financial Fair Play rules that have greatly limited the club’s financial powers in the market. It’s still possible to complete this signing.
Despite the departure of Memphis and the retirement of Gerard Pique, Barça reportedly have the margin to spend a fee of around €3 million over the course of six months. This has greatly limited the club’s options and it appears the Blaugrana can only target players on loan.
This is the reason why Barcelona have not ruled out the possibility of signing a new winger on a loan deal during the final hours of the market.
It remains unclear which player Barcelona are prioritising in these final hours, but the player in question must be willing to take a salary cut if they are to harbour hopes of playing for the Blaugrana. Alternatively, the club may try to look for cost-effective alternative by hunting for young players across Europe.
