A recent report from Diario SPORT has offered an update on the future of Martin Braithwaite. The forward is one of many players facing an uncertain future at FC Barcelona, having fallen victim to the club’s transfer market activity this summer.

Although Braithwaite was one of Barça’s attackers not more than 18 months ago, the striker has become a redundant presence at Camp Nou, especially after the summer signing of Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona have other attackers at their disposal as well, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Memphis Depay.

It has led the club to omit from the squad during the ongoing pre-season tour to the US. They had also informed the player to find a new club ahead of the new season.

However, Braithwaite is not too keen on leaving Camp Nou. The striker feels he has shown enough professionalism in training to remain at the club until his contract expires in 2024, or at least until the end of the next season.

Barcelona, though, are having none of it. They have started negotiations with Braithwaite’s agents over handing the player a letter of freedom that will enable him to leave the club, despite his contractual obligations.

In fact, Braithwaite is currently living his final few days in Barcelona. The player could soon leave the club and become a free agent. He has no shortage of suitors either, with Getafe and Rayo Vallecano among the clubs interested in his services.

Although Braithwaite was not one of the top earners at Camp Nou, his exit could still be of help, as the club look to balance the books and reduce the wage deficit ahead of the new season.
