Barcelona superstar Ronald Araujo has firmly established himself as one of the best defenders in the game currently.

The 24-year-old has grown into a leader for the Blaugrana over the past couple of seasons and was even rewarded with the captaincy this season, with the club naming him among the four skippers following Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba’s exits.

Araujo has not disappointed, leading the team by example, irrespective of whether he is wearing the armband or not, be it at his natural centre-back spot or while playing as a makeshift right-back.

Barcelona to offer a new contract

Recently, reports emerged claiming that German giants Bayern Munich had taken an interest in Ronald Araujo and were considering making an approach for the defender.

In response, Barcelona are now set to offer Araujo a new contract and have made it a priority to do so, reports reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist explains that Bayern’s interest in the Uruguayan international is very real and genuine, but Barça absolutely have no interest in entering any sort of negotiations with the Bavarian giants.

As far as the Blaugrana are concerned, Araujo is ‘untouchable’ and he will not be sold. Instead, the club want to offer him a new contract and are likely to begin negotiations soon.

Meanwhile, Araujo, whose market value stands at €70 million, himself is understood to be very happy and content at Barcelona and has not considered the prospect of leaving at all.

The 24-year-old signed a new contract with Barça until 2026 and intends to continue in Catalonia for a long time.

“Araujo fought to play in Barça’s first team. He achieved it and is very grateful for the opportunity the club gave him. He only thinks about winning titles with this shirt,” say those around him.

With both Barcelona and Araujo seemingly on the same page as far as his future is concerned, talks over a new contract should go ahead without any problems.
