Barcelona set eyes on their next big priority transfer for the January transfer window

The summer transfer window was really underwhelming for Barcelona fans, which saw Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann depart from the club, with no ‘big’ signings made. One can make a case for Memphis Depay in hindsight, but as it stands, it’s difficult to get excited about any other player in the offensive trident.
As such, it seems Joan Laporta and co. have set their sights on the next priority transfer that is bound to excite fans in the form of Dani Olmo, as reported by OnzeTV3. A graduate of La Masia, Olmo currently plays for RB Leipzig.
There were reports that made the news on the deadline day of the transfer window about how Barça had tried to sign the Spaniard without success. Their goal is to complete the signing in the winter window, with the club ready to shell out as much as €70 million.
The Barcelona administration wants to rebuild the team using talent from La Masia, and Olmo is a key part of that operation. Leipzig, too, are open to the move, given Olmo’s contract ticks over in 2023.
They do not want to repeat another Marcel Sabitzer situation, who moved to Bayern Munich for a mere €16 million. While they push for a winter move out for the 23-year-old, it would be relatively easier for the Catalan giants to go for his signature in the summer of ’22.
Olmo is a versatile player, who can slot in as a winger, a false 9, attacking midfield, and with some training, probably even in the midfield three.
